There are variety of pocket sized alarms on the market that produce a battery operated sound with an approximately 130 decibel siren. They are designed to attract attention to the victim. Obviously these alarms are not weapons and will not control any physical aggression. The alarms will have no effect on individuals who are emotionally enraged, or under the influence of narcotics or alcohol. Since these alarms do not have the capacity to slow down or even control an assailant, they may in fact enrage individuals who are determined to harm the victim. If these alarms are purchased in order to bring assistance and help to your side during an attack, the user must also be aware that most bodily harm occurs within seconds and in areas where crime rate is high, one cannot always depend on others for protection.
