The Explosive Expulsion System

This type of blast dispersion
or blast emission delivery is achieved by surrounding an explosive charge with the dust
type, tear gas crystals. The detonation of the charge in the grenade, or projectile,
ruptures its body and forces the fine CN or CS micro-pulverized, talc-size particles of
dust into the air.
This type of grenade must be employed with due regard for the safety of both the user
and the rioter. Ideally, it should be thrown directly into or above the crowd so that its
charge is expelled while it is still in the air. However, ear injury, concussion, wounds
due to fragmentation of the case and fuse pieces, and eye injuries are possible
undesirable side effects even when some types of blast grenades are used in the most
tactically desirable manner. Accidental discharge of these same grenades in the thrower's
hand, due to excitement, or a faulty fuse can cause serious and possibly permanent injury.
Blast expulsion grenades have frequently exploded in the hands of individuals, leading to
prolonged and sometimes permanent numbness of portions of the hands and fingers.
This method of delivery can cause severe contamination problems inside a building, and
the agent may remain persistent for days or even weeks.
