Tear-Gas Contamination

Agencies using tear gases usually face serious tear gas decontamination problems.
Clothing and cloth-covered items such as upholstered chairs and sofas cannot be entirely
decontaminated. These items should be moved into open air and exposed to air currents and
sunlight. Agencies ordinarily cannot handle decontamination procedures with their own
resources. Professional firms are usually contracted for this type of services. Most
insurance companies are aware of the serious decontamination problem involving tear gas
agents, and are usually contacted prior to decontamination for advice and making claims.
